It’s been a long slog of school holidays, particularly the last few weeks with having to juggle work and childcare. I think many a parent would have rejoiced with the return of school this week, namely for the reason of gaining traction on some routine again.
Don’t get me wrong, longer summer evenings and a relaxed approach to meals and bedtimes is a pleasant relief to a rigid schedule, but there comes a time (in my household anyway) where kids taking advantage of a more lenient routine needs to be nipped in the bud. We know how we feel when decent sleep and nourishing regular meals go astray, and with kids it presents itself as more frequent meltdowns, trantrums, throwing a wobbly, hangry – what ever you call it, it’s not pretty, and stressful to deal with.
I’ve promised myself to get back into meal planning and scheduling some bake-off days to fuel the family, so to start I’m making sure the family favourites are included and revved up with plenty of fibre-rich veges and protein-packed beef or lamb to keep my boys’ tummies full until bedtime.
I tested some of the recipes from our latest issue of mEAT Magazine
, and they were a hit, so I know they can be a regular feature in our menu repertoire. And for those of us in the sweltering heat, salad options are probably the most appealing. A perfect fit would be the beef steak wraps, which can be made with any lean cut of beef or lamb and some colourful raw crunchy veges.
Lastly, I’m excited to see the launch of our #WaytoGrow
campaign this on Monday. My sons, Jacob and Grayson are a part of it and it’s fascinating to see the television commercial come to fruition. What do your kids want to be when they grow up?
