IT'S IN THE HOW AND WHY WE EAT, NOT JUST THE WHAT

IM-Nutrition-Athletes

In a world where we are often distracted, yet always connected, there is emerging interest in what mindfulness or ‘being in the present moment’ can do to enrich our lives.

Mindful eating refers to being absorbed in, without judgement, the moment by moment experience of eating. It requires having awareness for the internal environment (your hunger and fullness levels, thoughts and emotions) and external environment (the context of your eating environment). If we eat while we are busy or feeling stressed, such as when driving, on a digital device or on-the-go, this often doesn’t allow us to truly appreciate our food and the pleasure it can provide. Research has shown that mindful eating can curb patterns of binge eating and emotional eating and improve overall meal satisfaction.
