Thursday 24 May is National Lamb Day - yes you heard right… A day for all New Zealanders to celebrate an iconic Kiwi dish with friends and family by tucking into some top quality New Zealand lamb.
You might not know it, but New Zealand is a little bit famous for how we produce our lamb, we’re sort of known for it.. it’s our thing. That means when you buy Quality Mark lamb from New Zealand supermarkets and butchers or order it at your favourite restaurant you are eating something really special. So, we thought it’s probably about time we did something massive to celebrate this mighty meat, aye?
And massive it is…literally.
We made a six metre tall ‘lamb chop’ that took on The Lamb and Three Veg Tiki Tour of New Zealand using The Backyard Cook – Marty Shanahan (see his Facebook page here)
THE LAMB AND THREE VEG TIKI TOUR
Starting at the kumara in Dargaville, we navigated our way down to Dunedin (or Port Chalmers to be exact) via some of the other wacky Kiwi attractions along the way.
Want to know where to buy the best cuts of lamb? Well you’re in luck. In hot demand, most retailers in New Zealand (be it your nearest supermarket or local butcher down the road) stock only the very best but if you’re in doubt look for the Quality Mark. Check out our full list of Quality Mark approved retailers HERE.
Join thousands of New Zealanders across the nation who will be raising their glasses to all things lamb on May 24, by cooking your own lamb dish for your friends, family or loved ones. In need of some recipe inspiration for the occasion? Look no further than the flock of lamb recipes we have right here on our very own website… (the appropriately named) recipes.co.nz.
P.S. we also have some great beef recipes, but don’t tell anyone we said that – we’re all about the lamb on this page.
Just by chance we have spent the last 20 years scouring New Zealand to find the best restaurants serving lamb (…and beef) so you don’t have to. What’s even better is we’ve put them into a really easy to read list so you can pick which one you’d like to go to. And what’s even better than that? We’ve called each and every restaurant up and asked them what their signature lamb dish is going to be during the week of National Lamb Day (week commencing Monday 21st May) so you can decide which is the most delicious sounding lamb dish. Do you know which restaurant is our favourite?
Answer: all of them.
