Eliza McCartney stepped into the spotlight in a big way at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games winning a bronze medal, which saw her become the youngest Olympic medalist in the women’s pole vault.
Eliza is currently the New Zealand and Oceania record holder and is a former Outdoor World Junior record holder.
Eliza first tried pole vaulting when she was 14 years old and a year later, in 2012 she won the National Youth Title and the New Zealand Secondary School Championship. Following on from this Eliza took the bronze medal at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics, Eliza has gone on to win many additional titles since.
Eliza also won the 2016 Halberg Favourite Sporting Moment Award and the 2015 Halberg Sky Next Emerging Talent Award.
Eliza took on the title of Beef + Lamb New Zealand Iron Maiden in 2016. We are proud to support such an inspiring athlete.
