Alison has been a professional cyclist for the past four years. Her specialist event is the 3000m Individual Pursuit; a time trial including 12 laps of strength, grit and fighting the pain barrier. Her fastest recorded time is 3 minutes, 29.8 seconds which saw her crowned World Champion (March 2009). Her most recent win was a Gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Alison says the life of a full-time athlete is a challenging one. "You experience extreme highs and also lows but the motivation is the constant pursuit to find out just how fast I can go". Alison thrives on the challenge of competing and pushing boundaries into the unknown.
Off the bike, Alison completed her Marketing and Nutrition degree at Otago University. She understands how important it is to fuel the body with the right energy to enable optimum performance on the bike. " I travel the world training and racing but coming home to New Zealand beef and lamb on my dinner plate is pure bliss and a reminder of why I love being a New Zealander - our beef and lamb is the best in the world," she says.
