Ingredients

Basic Mince Mixture

  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 500g lean beef or lamb mince
  • 2 Tbsp tomato purée
  • 400g can tomatoes in juice
  • 1 tsp mixed herbs or 1 Tbsp chopped fresh herbs (optional)
  • Buns or rolls, split
  • 400g can spaghetti
  • Grated cheese

Method

Heat the oil in a frying pan, and cook the onion gently for 5-6 minutes, until tender. Add the mince, breaking up with the back of a spoon to form small pieces until cooked thoroughly and no longer pink. Stir in tomato purée, canned tomatoes and herbs. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 30 minutes until reduced and thick, but still moist.

Spread 2 Tbsp of the basic mince mixture onto a spilt bun or roll. Top each bun with 1 Tbsp spaghetti and sprinkle with grated cheese. Place under a hot grill until the cheese is melted. Cut into slices for toddlers. Check the cheese is not too hot when serving.
